Over the weekend while thunderstorms rolled over us, our tower got hit. Again. The tower holding the Beta version of our UHF repeater got zapped too. Seems that Jake in his infinite wisdom never added a ground when he built it! George couldn’t even address the issue as Jake is no longer with the company.
This meant that George and Kevin had to climb towers again. Not my favorite thing to watch. The repeater got hauled down the tower. George dropped the mount, which bounced along one of the metal catwalks and then bounced into the fence. It actually dented the mount. Not bad considering that it was made of galvanized steel pipe.
The tower needed the radio replaced. The replacement from MikroTik came in and George spent most of the day putting things together then re-linking all the various parts. He also got one more wireless system up and running. Now there is a second source of revenue coming in as one of the truckstops now has a paying system. Lots of happy truckers and campers. Of course, that means more work for me trying to make sure the billing system is working well. Oh, and more customer service calls.
I had one yesterday that blew my mind. This woman calls and asks me if I know Excel. I said yes, and she asked me what did she need to do to get rid of the “crawling ants” outline on one of her sections of the spread sheet. I about died… To my credit, I didn’t laugh. I very calmly asked her to move her mouse arrow over to another section of the spreadsheet and click. She squealed over the phone and then thanked me profusely. I just said goodbye and then laughed after I was off the phone.
I also learned how to edit in the register of a computer today. “Black Arts” is what George and Kevin call it. All I had to do was change who the “owner” of the computer was. Not as difficult as I thought. I’ve been cleaning up a computer from the office of one of our clients. They fired an employee, and she had enough crud on her computer to fill a 200Gb drive. So, I’ve been dumping files, changing programs and now editing the register! Wheeeee!!! g33k gURL strikes again!
Tonight all I want to do is sit back and relax. Maybe go out for some dinner and then watch a movie. Kelly is due to show up at some point, so maybe it will be the two of us.
