A productive week

October 11, 2008

I am amazed! We actually got work done and not only a timely fashion, but without too many stupid people tricks. All the idiots must have crawled back under their rocks. I was so happy!

I even got the filing system under control. I gave in and put the current system in a box and started all over. New files, new folders and I think I ran the labeler out of tape.It was so nice to get things in order!

Of course, my quiet didn’t last. George and Kevin finally wrangled that contract for the new T-1 where no T-1 has gone before. Since we weren’t sure when the T-1 was coming in, we had to be ready to go deal with it the moment AirStream called. Our location is a hotel outside of town and we had to go wire it right then and there. The T-1 coming in will supply not only the hotel, but the truck stop across the highway with wireless. I helped run cable and was the gopher for all the parts the guys needed while up on the ladders. We went through a whole box of Cat5e.

I’m in the office today because after all that fun, we had some clients to reschedule. And while Monday is a holiday, we will still be working to update the network while we have a “quiet” day.  hahahahahaha

Hardy Heron is the winner!

August 12, 2008

Today I had enough of a brain to actually understand what on earth George had been going on about yesterday. He kept saying something about Hardy Heron, and I just didn’t get why he was talking about herring.

Ok, so I was hung over, sunburned and just ditzy. What he’d been trying to tell me is that he reloaded that hard drive with Hardy Heron Ubuntu! I’d smack my forehead, but it’s still too sunburned for that. I apparently really killed the Wolvix install. So, he decided that I might do better with Ubuntu.

So far, I’ve played a bit. Tried to reset my screen, changed my password, etc. Next is file transfer. I’m nervous about that one. At least we still have two hard drives to play with and all of my stuff will still be on the Windows disk.

I also got a new USB drive. It’s an OCZ 4 gb ATU. Suppose to be shock resistant, water proof and really fast. You’d think I destroyed my last one or something.  I didn’t, Kevin did! However, George was very sweet and ordered me one.

Well, I’m curling up with the Ubuntu book tonight and will try to learn how to do all of this. George may still get a panicky call tonight.
