Certifiably Geekieeeee!!!

February 25, 2009

We have been working our asses off! Hughes screwed up some major jobs and we have been rewiring things until I’m seeing wiring diagrams in my sleep. Oh, and let’s not forget the phones. They  have been ringing like crazy too. I’d thought with so many out of work, that we’d actually slow down. Nope! Weird!!!

We had to go up to our warehouse supply store that does all the right bits for the right prices. Windtronics. They are always so nice. Bottles of water, good conversation, cookies sometimes and lots of cool stuff to buy. George went in for two phone connectors. (yet another Hughes job) What he found though was this bag he could put all of his tools in for half the weight and price of other bags he’d been looking at.

George wrenched his back a week or so ago trying to lift a toolbag weighing 75 pounds on the run. (stupid man!) So, he has been trying to downsize his stuff ever since. His new Samsung NC10 came in and he has been over the moon with it. But,… back to the bag. It was adjustable, just like a camera bag. Lots of bits to change around and fiddle with. He put it up on the counter and said if he could make things fit, he’d buy it. The counter help at Windtronics just laughed and helped him out. 25 minutes later, everything except the laptop was in the bag! We were paying for the bag and the connectors when the boss came out and gave us each a tool kit with pouch about the size of a small apple and a pocket protector with Windtronics on it. I laughed so hard I could barely breathe!

They said that I was now a certified geek! LOL!!!! I proudly stuck it in my handbag with the ad flap sticking out. The tool kit is pretty cool too. Drivers, hex tools and a mini wrench. Best of all, I don’t have to share!

Winter storm watch-Akkkkk!!!

December 22, 2008

Why am I in a panic? Oh gee…. been sick, been busy at work, and No Time To Shop!!! On top of that, we have a winter storm warning and that means not fast easy trip to one of the big shopping centers. Unless I can pursuade George to drive tomorrow, I will be giving everyone IOU’s or cash in a card.

I usually don’t wait. I usually have everything bought, wrapped and under the tree by now. Not this year though. Between crazy clients, our bank loosing our statement, (don’t ask… don’t EVEN ask) and me getting sick right after finals, I’m behind.

Oh, and it is cold. Windy and Cold! My office is like an icebox. Even my little heater isn’t helping.

Kevin and George are happy though. They’ve been playing with the new antennas and hope to order more next year if they work out alright. They have one of the Ubiquity bullets set up in the windy zone out at the one ranch that blows an antenna every few months. If it lasts a month, our supplier had better be ready for a bulk order.

Meanwhile, Mr. Clark is still pissed at me. I think he had great plans for those balls… Oh well.

Friday took way too long to get here!

September 19, 2008

Not that it’s been a rough week, but just a very long week!

I got Kelly to make the birthdy cake for George and I was able to surprise him with it and a present! I got him a DVD that he’s been wanting. Silent Running. I think that he and Kevin ate half the cake in less time than it took to sing happy birthday and blow out the candles.

Our normal flow of customers were in full gear this week. Our one problem child must have called five times. I handed him off to Kevin twice. Funny, but as soon as I did he seemed to remember how to delete his cookies. Hm….

Oh, and a friend of George’s died and left him all of his computer stuff. So, I came in to work to find a huge box of parts and George deep into a new computer on Wednesday. There was a small digital camera in the mix and I get to use it when I want. Wheeee!!!

Busy at work

Busy at work

I can now play the mad paparazzi!  teeheehee…. Oh!!! and the best part! My Linux machine picked up the camera and downloaded the pictures with no problems!!! No extra drivers needed, nothing! Wheeee!!!

I spent part of today trying to figure out a better file system for the company. Not sure if there is one, but what I have is driving me nuts. Yeah, I know I cleaned it up and made it usable, but that’s just it. I made it usable. Not that it is functional. So, maybe I’ll tackle it this weekend or Monday.

Tomorrow I’m going shopping with my sister. Groceries and such, but still a chance to get out and about.

Doctors and dog food and Cat 5e Oh my

August 5, 2008

Today we closed the office as George has to go back to see the doctor. We went out to see if he gets his arm out of the sling. Of course, the appointment came and went. Typical hospital. 25 minutes after we were suppose to be with the doctor, the nurse came out and let us know that the doctor was stuck at the other hospital. So, we get to take a 45 minute drive north. New appointment at 3:30pm. Wheeee… I figure this is revenge for yesterday. We had to go in because more cactus had worked it’s way to the surface. ewwww!

So, we are combining our run north with other chores. One of our clients is having a new phone line run and she wants Cat5e. This way she can have multi use for the line. We are grabbing dog food for another person and an ink cartridge and toilet paper for another customer. With the price of gas, we have tried to make our runs as profitable and useful as we can. I teased George that he could always open up a taxi service if his arm didn’t heal. He just smiled and reminded me that I’m the one driving.

Lunch is over. Guess I’d better get behind the wheel.

Where’d the Week go????

July 3, 2008

I have been so busy that I suddenly woke up to the fact that it was Thursday, and I was at the end of the week! Huzzah!!!! for the 4th of July! I even got a paycheck out of it! So good to have money again. I haven’t really been short of cash, but all the bills came due last time and just ate everything so fast that I didn’t have any mad money.

George and Kevin have kept me busy with all the reports we had to generate. We figured out that with a small repeater that we could cover most of the county. That was just cool. The sheriff thought it was pretty neat too. I think he’ll be getting the local city council to help fund the project that George and I are writing up. We want to buy the towers, supply the local law enforcement with space on the towers and then rent the rest out. Dancing $$ signs…. At least in Kevin’s eyes.

I took part of the day off on Tuesday to go to lunch with my sister Kelly. We splurged on A&W. I raided the change jar for the money.

Tonight I’m going shopping. George has to go too, and he has promised to drive. I think he still thinks my knee isn’t good enough to hobble around on. I catch him watching me and it isn’t my ass he’s watching, it’s my knee. I don’t mind the company, but there are days I could do without the audience. I was with the two of them at Target the other day when this drop dead gorgeous guy walked by. I was drooling and actually stopped in the middle of the parking lot to watch him.   dark curly hair, dark beard, 6′5″, muscular build, broad shoulders, narrow hips and oh the ass… oh my… Both of the guy started snickering and cracking jokes about me getting whiplash. I thumped them both.

Who knows though. I might manage a social life yet. Especially if I can dump the guys on the weekends. Haven’t had a boyfriend in way too long. sigh…

Shopping!

June 7, 2008

I woke up this morning to George pounding on my door.  I stumbled out in my bathrobe to let him in. He had my paycheck. Oh, and a shopping list. He wanted to go shopping and said I needed some stuff too. When I asked him what I needed, he replied, “Steel toed boots, heavy jeans and a long sleeved shirt.” He wasn’t making any sense. Or my brain was still asleep. I asked him to repeat that and explain.

George then explained that since Jake left the company, they were short a technician, and I got promoted. I was still the ‘office manager’, but I’d be helping out in the field.  Hence the need for steel toed boots and protective clothing. My brain still wasn’t processing this all, so I excused myself to go make some tea. George followed me out and started rooting around in my kitchen. I asked him what he was doing. His reply was that he was looking for the bread, so we could have some toast. Gakkk! I showed him where the bread was, and left him to finish up the tea while I went and showered.

I came out of the bathroom to find tea, toast and scrambled eggs ready for me. ok, is this guy for real? Or, am I dreaming??? I scarfed my breakfast down, grabbed my sandals and we were out the door and off to the bank. I had figured out by this time that I did have a job, and a promotion, and that it wasn’t a joke.

We drove off to the local Walmart and I got to delve into the world of work clothes for the construction set. He was laughing at me trying to find a pair of boots small enough to fit my feet. They actually had women’s steel toed boots. WOW! However, they had to meet OSHA regulations for climbing ladders and that type of thing. We finally found a pair of men’s 7.5’s that fit well enough. Then I got some jeans and a denim shirt. After the fun stuff, we got the groceries we both needed and headed home. We had to stop at Petsmart for dog food. George has this puppy that followed him home from a former girlfriend from what I can tell. I met her on Wednesday when we moved George. Her name is Brandy. Very sweet dog.

This is a picture I took of her at the office. George figures daddy was a coyote. I wouldn’t be surprised. There are lots of hybrids around here. Wolf, coyote and whatever took their fancy.

We got home and George and I unloaded groceries at both houses. Brandy was over the moon to see me. Guess it was the bag of dog food I had in my hands. I checked my email real quick and then excused myself and headed home.

I think I’ll do something girly like go see my sister tomorrow. She working at the Silver Dollar Bar. I don’t drink, but she’ll keep me in Lime Cokes till I float. I do love my big sister!

I’m so happy I don’t have to go job hunting on Monday!
